The preparation of a city development plan, which has been a major shortcoming for the development of Bentota city, was initiated on 25.02.2026.

The inaugural and first meeting of stakeholders held in this regard was successfully held at the Bentota AIDA Hotel, at the request and patronage of the Chairman of the Bentota Pradeshiya Sabha, convened by the Urban Development Authority. The Chairman of the Bentota Pradeshiya Sabha, Mr. Nishantha Perera, Member of Parliament, Mr. Nishantha Samaraweera, Chairman of the COPE Committee, Mr. Hazara Liyanage, Member of Parliament, Mr. Premakumara Wijewardena, Chairman of the Bentota Pradeshiya Sabha, the Vice Chairman, members of Parliament, the Secretary of the Pradeshiya Sabha, the political authority, and the Bentota Pradeshiya Sabha, including the Secretary, and many government officials, participated in this event.
