After Udakotuwa Rajamaha Vihara, one kilometer on the circular road, you will meet Yatramulla Mansandiya, and at that junction, turn left and go about a hundred meters to reach Vanavasa Ranjaha Vihara. This Raja Maha Vihara is built on top of a hill in a mesmerizing environment. This temple is adorned with very ornate murals. Statues of Vihara Maha Devi and King Dutugemunu can be seen.
It is mentioned in the old book that this is a Rajamaha temple which is a heritage of a long history and was built by Buddhist monks during the reign of King Devanampiyatissa or close to it. Also, most of the Sandes poems written during the Kotte era contain beautiful poems about the Vanavasa Rajamaha Vihara. The historical value of this temple, which is believed to be where the arahants lived, is immense.
